A picture of how work depends on work, drawn from the records.
NovusLens shows how work depends on other work in your organisation. Discussions about changing the organisation can then start from your own records. It reads the records to show which teams and services depend on each other. It also shows who answers for each unit and what evidence supports each claim. It does not run the organisation’s systems, and it does not run its AI agents.
The problem it addresses
Plans to change an organisation can fail when they overlook how people coordinate their work. That coordination can be hard to see at the start. The org chart shows reporting lines. It does not show who waits on whom, or where a delay would stop a service. NovusLens makes that structure visible, so that a discussion starts from the records.
What a twin is
A twinTwinNovusLens’s model of one organisation, built from records about its teams, services and how they rely on one another. It is only as current as those records. is NovusLens’s own up-to-date model of how your organisation is wired, built from the evidence it has collected. Each organisation has its own, holding its own records and nobody else’s. The organisation model page describes what it contains.
What it measures
Two measures sit at the centre of the product.
Complexity, Agility and RecoverabilityRecoverabilityThe R in C/A/R: how well a team or service restores acceptable service after a failure. Recovery times and tested alternatives can supply evidence. (C/A/RC/A/RThree separate scores for a team or service: Complexity, Agility and Recoverability. Each uses current evidence and the customer’s stated scoring rules.) score the current structure of a team or service. Complexity is about structure and dependenciesDependencyA link where one unit needs something from another. A dependency is not a reporting line: it shows where work relies on something else.. Agility is the ability to change. Recoverability is the ability to restore service after a disruption. A score describes the present; it is calibrated to a written local rule, so a score of 60 has no universal meaning on its own. The C/A/R concept page explains the detail.
Critical path lengthCPLCritical path length. The total coordination weight of the longest chain of dependencies in the model. NovusLens reports it as index points, not elapsed time. (CPL) locates the longest chain of dependencies through the organisation. If Sales waits on Finance, and Finance waits on Data, that is a chain of three. Each link is weighted by how costly the handoffHandoffWork or information passed from one team or service to another. Its measured or stated completion time determines the dependency class. between the two teams is: a handoff that needs a lot of coordination weighs more than one that does not. The product’s screens call the same figure the dependency-chain index. It is a structural index in its own units, not a count of hours or money. The CPL concept page explains it.
What it rests on: the evidence ladder
Every claim in NovusLens carries a label that says how it is known. There are three rungsRungOne of three levels of support for a recorded value: told, shown or measured. The level appears beside the value..
toldToldEvidence that somebody stated the value. It is the weakest level, and it is always attributed to its speaker. shownShownEvidence that a document supports a value. A recovery plan that states a target shows the target, but it does not show that the target was achieved. measuredMeasuredThe top evidence level: a connected source recorded the observation within a stated period. A measurement shows what was observed on that occasion, not that it always holds.A claim is toldToldEvidence that somebody stated the value. It shows what kind of support stands behind it. The evidence ladder page sets this out in full.
What it does not do
NovusLens maps, surfaces, locates and advises, and it produces evidence. It does not stop a process or run an agent. When it finds a difference between the written picture and the recorded one, it shows the difference and the sources. People decide what to do about it and own the decision. A generated answer is not an approved decision.
The parts
Six parts make up the product. They keep the organisation model, calculate measures, read your data, store written accounts, answer questions and raise findingsFindingA difference in the records that needs a decision. It includes its sources and can describe a slow handoff, disputed fact or missing owner., and provide the web application. The architecture section names them and shows how they are deployed on the customer’s own infrastructure.
Who it is for
NovusLens is written for the customer’s own team, and five groups use it in different ways.
Executives use the Overview, which selects a short set of items to review first, and the management brief that can be taken to a discussion. Analysts use Ask and find, the Complexity, change and recovery view, and the evidence behind each figure. Stewards look after the records behind the mapMapThe view of teams, services and their dependencies for the selected part of the organisation. Details appear beside the map.: they keep sources current and work through the items the product flags as contested or missing. Operators install, run, back up and verify a twin on the customer’s host, and they are the only users who see the Administration destination. Integrators connect the customer’s sources and groups of AI agents, so that observations reach the twin.
Where it comes from
NovusLens is built on Conway+, a framework from Novus-i2. The framework treats an organisation as a set of people and teams whose behaviour is shaped by how they are connected. It draws on Conway’s Law, the observation that the structure of an organisation tends to appear in the systems it builds. Conway+ is the name of the framework. The product is NovusLens.
